Unit 32

Second Grade Segments
~~~~~~~~~
HOD's Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory - Unit 32
~~~~~~~~~
It's been a very lazy week.  I have very few pictures.

Bible verse:
Proverbs 18:24
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
**Thank you, Lord Jesus, for that promise!**
Bible Study:
Psalm 121:1-8
God is always watching over us.  Always.  He doesn't grow weary.  He doesn't sleep.  We can always trust that He is there to help us.  It's a promise.  Always.

Math:
We have been very light on the math this week trying to make it stretch.  (and being lazy)
We have 10 lessons to go!
~~~~~~~~~
History:
We learned about the California Trail.  We added it to our timeline.
We learned about a girl named Nell whose family had traveled west on the Oregon Trail.  She lived in a log cabin with her family. She had to take care of her baby brothers while her father took her sick mother to the nearest town.  She fell asleep with the door open and a bear entered her home!  Her little brothers thought the bear was a dog. He wanted molasses.  Nell threw a jar of molasses outside.  Later, she shot the bear from a window!
We also read about a boy named Ken who traveled to California by stagecoach. His father had gone before him to look for gold. During that time, California had become the 31st state!
We also learned about blacksmiths.
We also created a population bar graph on the floor with masking tape, but I forgot to snap a photo.
~~~~~~~~~
Geography:
We read about the route of the Oregon Trail and traced it on a map.
~~~~~~~~~
Science:
God made black bears!  They can be 10 feet tall and weigh 1700 lbs.  I taped T's thumbs to the palms of her hands to be "paws".  She tried to pick up different objects with her paws.  Some were harder than others.  But that wasn't all.  She had bear paws for an hour.  She even got dressed and ate lunch with her "paws".  She's pretty good at being a bear. ;)
God created gold!  Gold is a mineral.  It does not rust!
