HOD - Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory - Unit 26
Bible verse:
By the end of this unit, T did a wonderful job reciting this verse!
~~~~~~~~~
Bible Study:
Colossians 3:12-17 was our Bible Study this week. We learned the traits God wants us to have to live for Him and show Him glory. He especially wants us to put on "love" and work well with others.
~~~~~~~~~
Artistic Expression:
T made a "shirt" to look like the one she was wearing one day. Inside the shirt is a list of traits that God wants us to have. (from Colossians Bible Study)
She had a fox on her shirt and drew another picture of her.
~~~~~~~~~
History:
We learned a lot about George Washington this week. He was such a great army general that he was elected as first President of the United States. The first thing he did after being sworn in, was go to church to pray.
Washington resided in New York as President.
He desired to glorify God in all he did.
~~~~~~~~~
Science:
When Washington became president, people celebrated with fireworks. We made *fireworks* with milk, a few drops of food coloring and a drop of dish soap.
This is our experiment right after adding the food coloring.
3 minutes later...
10 minutes later...
12 minutes later...the colors moved continuously for 12 minutes, then stopped.
This week we also learned about horses. We learned that horses are measured in 'hands' and an average horse is 15' tall. T practiced measuring with hands.
We also learned that donkeys, mules, zebras and rhinoceroses are all in the horse family.
T practiced "galloping" like a horse.
~~~~~~~~~
Language Arts:
We worked on synonyms, sounds of y, contractions, parts of books and sounds of *wa*. We also learned where to place commas in a series of words in a sentence.
~~~~~~~~~
Reading:
T is loving this book! She has been reading silently for the past week or two. Her comprehension has really impressed me.
~~~~~~~~~
Spelling:
The sun was really shining in the window one day so we played with shadow puppets. Oops, we are supposed to be working. :) I submitted Unit 26 word list on at www.spellingcity.com. It looks like they deleted some of the free printable sheets. :( We have been focusing on "ow" as in "cow".
We need to slow down a little and do more neat, careful work.
~~~~~~~~~
Poetry/Copywork:
~~~~~~~~~
Math:
We continued in A Beka's Arithmetic 2.
T is getting really great at her 'times tables'!
~~~~~~~~~
Storytime/Read Aloud:
This is our favorite part of the day because this book is so funny! T's narration has been super! We focused on the character trait "joy" in this unit.
~~~~~~~~~
Update 3/13/13 @ 6:30 pm
They are having a potato competition at Awana tonight. This is the potato T made. Can you tell what character she is really into right now?
~~~~~~~~~
TOTBITS:
~~~~~~~~~
Scrumpy Tot turned 14 months this week.
One day this week it was above 60 degrees outside! Scrump walked outside for the very first time in his life on 3/9/13.
~~~~~~~~~
This was another great week! We are so happy you joined us!
Where did you get that awesome spelling worksheet? Did you make it yourself? My dd needs reinforcement but I am about as creative as a bowl of gravel :P
ReplyDeleteI love reading your updates, I need to get my HOD HS blog back up & running :)

Your words have encouraged me - thank you! I don't always feel like blogging and you made my day! Yes, please blog! I'd love to see what you are doing, too! :)
My dd is 9 and we are doing Beyond. I have not updated my blog in ages but I'm going to work on it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have a membership to Spelling City--thanks for sharing the link!
I am working on making lists for Rod & Staff Spelling grade 2 ( we are using that along with the lists in Beyond). Once I am finished, I'll post the link here :)
