SECOND GRADE SEGMENTS

Beyond -Unit 14- and more
Bible Study: John 14:1-2 We worked really hard on this all week. It was REALLY difficult for me personally because we learned the NIV and I already knew the KJV. Once in a while the worldly me gets in the way believing the Old KJV is the absolute and ONLY version that should be memorized. God has showed me many times over that hiding His word in our hearts is important, no matter the version.
T learned that we can and should trust God. He told us so. He is without sin and cannot lie. He keeps his promises. We also studied Exodus 14:5-11. God kept his promise to Moses and the Israelites. He is the same God today that he was so many years ago. The Lord saved the Israelites from the Egyptians and watches over all His people. He has a plan for us!
Turkey said, "Satan can't get to us if God is protecting us, right Mommy? I know that. God's protection is like an invisible wall all around me, but I know He's there."
We read about Moses parting the Red Sea, then did an experiment with pepper and dish soap in a bowl of water. It was super the first time, but I forgot to snap a picture. T wanted to do it again and it made a really cool pattern in the water!

History: We continued with Stories of the Pilgrims. An Indian came to warn the pilgrims a ship was coming. The Indians were worried it was a French ship coming to capture Plymouth. There was a red cross on the ship's flag that showed it was an English ship. (We painted the cross on paper just like this, but Mommy forgot to snap a picture.)
In Unit 14, we read new passengers came from England. There was not enough food, but the Pilgrims shared anyway.
We also read about the Indians sending a messenger with a snakeskin filled with arrows, showing they planned to attack the Pilgrims. Governor Bradford sent the messenger back with the snakeskin filled with gunpowder. The Indians did not attack.
Chief Massasoit got sick. Edward Winslow helped him get well with broth.
He taught the Indians that eating right, getting fresh air and water, and rest worked better than the medicine men.

Science: God's Wonderful Works.
This week we learned about oxygen in our air and how it fights sickness. We also learned about small reptiles. We were supposed to do a couple of activities this week for Science. I needed a coffee filter for the one, but didn't have any, so I just explained the activity to T. Another was more "artistic expression" thank experiment, gluing punch-out circles on a snake for snakeskin, but she wasn't interested in doing it.

Math: T uses Abeka Arithmetic 2. We visited more countries this week. Great Britain and Zambia were 2 of them. T wondered if zombies come from Zambia. So, we had to have a chat about zombies.
We worked on number families to 12, lots of addition with regrouping, time to the 30, 15 and 5 minutes, 3 number combinations, temperature and much more.

Storytime: We are still in Little House in the Big Woods. 2 chapters to go. We should be reading about Fantasy, but Mommy is skipping it for now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Language Arts: We learned about proper nouns this week and T made a list of her family members' full names. She is also working on a book report.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reading: R read "Amelia Bedelia" this week. Well, she read it Monday and I found worksheets online to go with the book. We worked on those Tuesday and Wednesday, then she read out of a 3rd grade Reading textbook on Thursday and Friday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spelling: We worked on words with the sound of "or" this week. On Monday T wrote her words 3x each. Tuesday she did pyramid words and we used each word in a sentence orally. Wednesday she did rainbow words, Thursday I quizzed her orally and she did word clouds. Friday she reviewed her spelling list and took her test!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Poetry and Rhymes: T copied the poem "The Arrow and the Song", acted the poem out on Wednesday and drew pictures to go with the poem on Friday.
Wish Mommy had taken more pictures this week!!
