SECOND GRADE SEGMENTS
I don't have a ton of pictures this week. I can't seem to get it together. :)

We also learned that God is ultimately in control of everything and Mommy REALLY should have gone over what was happening with the election. About 9 pm I asked Turkey what she thought was going on. Her response: "I dunno, it's the end of the world?"

History: T listened to Stories of the Pilgrims while following along in the book. She really enjoyed learning about Squanto, an Indian who was the only survivor of his tribe. Everyone else in his tribe died of the "black sickness". Squanto spoke English pretty well, but wanted to learn how to "make paper talk", or read. The first book he learned to read was the Bible.
Squanto taught the pilgrims how to hunt with traps, to fish, and to plant corn. He also taught the Indian language to Edward Winslow.
T also learned that the Pilgrims made a peace treaty with the Indians.

Science: This week T learned that God rules over the seasons. Mommy didn't get a chance to do Day 2's experiment with her. She forgot all about it after searching for a flashlight that was needed for the experiment!
T made a small poster of the 4 seasons with pictures out of a magazine. I loved what she said about the poster. "The allergy medicine reminded me of Winter when everyone gets sick, and pretend the bird is a turkey for Fall." :)
We also did an experiment with a glass and tiny pieces of paper, showing how germs spread. T didn't enjoy that one too much because we had a lot of little pieces of paper to pick up off the floor when the germs flew everywhere. But she sure got to see why we need to cover our nose and mouth when we sneeze and cough!

Poetry: "The Prayer Perfect" was our poem this week. We took 4 days for copywork and 1 to act out and color pictures to go with our poem.
Oh yes, we constantly work on penmanship.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Artistic Expression: Mommy forgot to cut our paper towel into a heart shape. But we wrote PEACE across a paper towel and dip-dyed it. Mommy has a friend in the hospital that needs a cheer, so T is going to send it in the mail to her. We learned that the Lord will fill our hearts with peace through the Holy Spirit, if we believe in Him. God is with us through the good, bad and scary times!
Math: This week we worked on adding and subtracting through the 11 family. We also did lots of time, measurement, xtramath.org, and counting money.
Friday we visited Canada.
We learned that the Canadian National Tower is 1,822 feet tall.
Ottowa is the capital of Canada.
The highest temperature ever recorded in Canada was 45 degrees Celsius.
Canada is divided into 13 sections. 3 are territories and the rest are provinces.
Reading: T read "Frog and Toad Are Friends" by Arnold Lobel. Her favorite part of the book was when Toad stood on his head for a long time trying to think of a story to tell Frog. She said, "He looks ridiculous!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Storytime: Mommy continued to read aloud "Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We traveled with Laura and her family to Grandma's, learned how they made maple sugar and went through Winter and Spring with Laura and her family. We still have many pages of the book to finish by Monday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spelling: This week we worked on words with 'u' formed with silent final 'e'. T missed the word "because" on her final test. Even though we worked on that all week, she still insisted on spelling it with a 'k'. We used spellingcity.com for worksheets and online games to go with our spelling list.
And Scrump turned 10 months old this week! He can climb stairs, so Daddy had to put up a gate. He loves to clap, play peek-a-boo, walk all around holding onto furniture and yell for MAMA! He also discovered the cat's litter pan. Yuck!
Thanks for visiting our week. We hope you enjoyed yours, too!
